M&A March 2011 European Editions Cover Picture and Story
COVER STORY
The cover is a fluorescence micrograph of a Caenorhabditis elegans hermaphrodite in the late L2 stage (green: antibodies against PDZ-protein TAG-60; red: antibodies against AJM-1; blue: DNA stained by DAPI). The image was captured using an Olympus BX63 microscope. Courtesy of the Hajnal Group at the Institute of Zoology, University of Zurich, Switzerland.
The Olympus BX63 is the premier model of the new BX3 upright microscope range. BX3 microscopes are designed to provide you with the flexibility to combine the ideal optical components, camera, software suite, and control solutions to create the best system for your application. As such, BX3 microscopes are built by your needs, with a modular, customisable ethos that ensures they are inherently future proof.
The BX63 houses a host of cutting-edge, fully motorised features. This includes a programmable touch panel and a detachable remote control, each of which can control the components of the imaging system. Both can be used to change objective, mirror unit and observation method, as well as navigate and focus the sample. Each control unit can be detached from the microscope frame and freely positioned.
The BX63 is focused via the motorised nosepiece rather than by altering the height of the stage. This allows the stage to be fixed into position, making the entire system more stable and precise. The BX63 can also be fitted with a novel true-colour LED system to increase image quality and minimise power consumption.
The benefits of the BX63 are best when combined with the power of the Olympus cellSens software suite, which makes it possible to perform advanced imaging processes such as multiple image alignment, multi-position and Z-stack acquisition.
