In its 40th year, the Society for Neuroscience features thousands of lectures, symposia, workshops and events on innovative neuroscience research. The lastest developments in microscopy abound on the show floor. On Monday, NIH Director Francis Collins gave a special presentation on his vision for NIH, including the key challenges and opportunities facing the NIH and the broader community.

Dr Julian HeathJulian Heath is the Editor of Microscopy and Analysis. He has a PhD in cell biology and has worked in the UK and US using light and electron microscopy techniques. Julian is the author of the Dictionary of Microscopy.  
Nancy D. Lamontagne is a science editor. She authors the Microscopy News Blog and was previously editor of several industry magazines.

Hamamatu’s new TDI engine is used to investigate time delay integration (TDI) cameras. While the company has had these cameras for some time, customers would have to build a setup to test out which camera would work best for their application.

The new fluorescence microplate imager has a price point lower than competing systems -- costing $80,000 to $90,000.
