The course aim is to introduce the both the theoretical principles and the practical aspects of Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Topics covered will depend on the interest and experience of participants but will include ‘optimal approaches to instrument alignment, ‘electron diffraction techniques’, ‘an introduction convergent beam methods’, ‘High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM)’ and ‘Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM)’. Associated analytical techniques such as ‘Energy Dispersive X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (EDS)’ will also be demonstrated. In addition, new techniques such as aberration correction and monochromation will be discussed. Participants are encouraged to bring along their own prepared TEM specimens, although due to time constraints we cannot guarantee to be able to image all samples.
Introduction to Transmission Electron Microscopy Training, Welwyn, Herts, UK 28-30 April 2009
JEOL UK Ltd. is pleased to announce that it will be running an 'Introduction to Transmission Electron Microscopy' training course from 28th-30th April 2009 at the JEOL UK applications centre, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, UK.
The course is being organised by Dr Sarah Haigh as part of an ongoing collaboration between the University of Oxford, Department of Materials and JEOL. During the three days participants will gain hands on experience using some of the company’s latest transmission electron microscopes. This practical tuition will be backed up by classes and lectures.
