2nd Intl Workshop for SPM for Energy Applications, Mainz, Germany 8-10 June 2011

Following a highly successful first conference with over 100 attendees, the 2nd International Workshop on Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) for Energy Applications at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany,  will focus on sharing new and innovative research involving characterization of the microscopic mechanisms underpinning solar cell, battery, fuel cell operations, and materials used for alternative energy applications at the nanometer to micron range.

Recent advances/techniques in SPM/AFM used to characterized energy relevant materials and systems will also be addressed. The three-day meeting will include invited/contributed talks and a poster session. An equipment lab and tutorial will be held on the last day for demonstration of recently-developed dynamic and multi-spectral SPM modes. Abstracts are now being accepted. Deadline is 20 May, 2011.

Topics include (but not limited to): • Mapping of carrier dynamics & photoinduced behavior of photovoltaic materials • Ionic and electronic transport in fuel cells and Li-ion batteries • Energy harvesting, and energy dissipation imaging by multimodal and band excitation SPMs • New SPM advances/techniques for characterizing materials including electrochemical strain microscopy, contact resonance, multi-modal techniques, micro-Raman and NSOM, functionalized probes, etc.
